I have one quote for us this weekend to keep you feeling pretty inspired:
"To drive people out of their comfort zones, you have to cultivate dissatisfaction, frustration, or anger at the current state of affairs, making it a guaranteed loss"
When we find ourselves in a state of guaranteed loss - when we have nothing to lose - is when we come face to face with the opportunity to keep falling lower or to build ourselves up step-by-step. It is our choice. It is your choice.
Some people are happy being in a state of comfort and stability. Others enjoy being on the edge of the cliff, searching for the next big leap. Wherever you are and whatever you like, always remember that life will put you in a place of uncertainty and frustration once in a while.
Whether it is the terrified child that is on the brink of jumping into his first swimming class, or the high school boy who gets bullied for being unique, or the college girl trying to have ends meet to maintain her livelihood, or the thirty year old on the edge of an existential crisis, or the fifty year old who just poured coffee over himself on his way to work. In all stages of life, we will come face to face with a situation when we feel it is all lost forever.
When you find yourself in that moment, take a deep breath, go out for a walk (maybe hang out with some friends), and come back with a head fresh and opened to think.
I have said before, but I will say it again: I will always be in love - in love with the idea of learning.
When you are in love with learning, you have the ability to convert those apparent "guarantee losses" into opportunities.
When you are in love with learning, you desire to grow and change. Always be in love with learning.
Of course, be prepared for great discomfort and disorientation, for a plant that is re-planted must seek to attach its roots again in an unfamiliar soil. It is during this learning process that you must seek to choose where you want to plant your roots.
Seek those opportunities!
I will leave you with a great song for the weekend: Cuando Te Encontre by Matisse. This a great Mexican trio, and this song kind of speaks about the uncertainty that always lies in life. You never know what you are going to find on the other side of the street, so find a way to get there!
Be strong, be unique, and step outside of your comfort zone!
