Today, we are going to talk about E.B. White's quote from above. Sometimes (a lot of times, actually) I also wake up feeling like I have this big responsibility to change the world. I feel like all that I do must in some way contribute to the greater whole of humanity. These things range from the career choices I take, to the type of food I eat, up to the way I volunteer. However, it is easy to miss enjoying the moment when all you do is complete, complete, and complete the job.
I also wish to enjoy the moment. I also wish I could be still for a moment, and admire the colors in the sky, the smiles of people, the cries of a hurt family, or the hug of a friend. I also wish to be crazy and lazy and just have fun.
So, I have designed a new goal. I was inspired by my priest who talked about the habit of "living a life on fire". Yes, live your life on fire. No matter what it is that your are doing, try to always give your 110%. Be present and be strong. Be present and feel.
Learn to plan your "work" and your "play" times. Don't overlap them! We are all such a busy culture, we feel guilty if we stop working for even five minutes! But, don't you know that if you choose to create these "play" times, you are actually giving your brain a positive feed back loop to allow you to be more creative and original?
By deciding to have down-time in your hands, you will be creating new nerves in your brain that will allow you to work more efficiently at "improving the world".
Always have that desire to work, and to be "on fire" on the job. But don't forget to enjoy it, too. Only by learning appreciation can you begin to acknowledge the wonderful work that you do, and even become inspired to create something even greater.
I hope you have a wonderful week!
Be strong, be unique, and step out of your comfort zone!
