Juan Luis Guerra is originally from the Dominican Republic and he started his career very early always being involved with music in some way. He actually went to Berkley to study and returned to the Dominican Republic with a surprise. Upon his return He was able to create a distinctive new style of merengue that utilizes elements from the Beatles, American rock, folk, jazz, and traditional Dominican music to create a style that would mesmerize young and old audiences from all over the world.
Guerra’s quick, up-beat style, and raspy voice catch the attention of dancers and amateurs alike. If entering a Latin club, his music is bound to be heard. His music has had an effect on the dancing culture that has encouraged the values and beliefs of his country to remain alive through many years.
I cannot really describe his songs, so I will leave you to listen to them. In the video I post, there are various songs. My favorite ones are: Bachata Rosa, Burbujas de Amor, and El Niagara en Bicicleta.
I hope you get the chance to hear him, and please feel free to comment what you think!
Have a great Saturday :) :) :)
