The first video is of a couple (a young couple) who teach dance at a school. They decided to do a little demonstration of Bob Marley's "Is This Love" and it is beautiful. They dressed up as an old couple and even acted out like an old couple in their dance moves. The choreography is ridiculously cute and funny, so I hope you enjoy watching them. And I hope you enjoy the song, too. I mean, who doesn't like Bob Marley, right? :)
Listening and watching this video, along with some of the readings I have been doing, really made it even more clear to me the importance of love. I know it is such a simple concept in life, but are we really sure we know what it means? Are we really sure we show it everyday?
The following is an excerpt from the book "Tuesdays with More" by Mitch Albom:
"Life is a series of pulls backs and forth. You want to do one thing, but you are
bound to do something else. Something hurts you, yet you know it shouldn't. You
take certain things for granted, even when you know you should never take
anything for granted.
"A tension of opposites, like a pull on a rubber band. And, most of us live
somewhere in the middle."
Sounds like a wrestling match, I say.
"A wrestling match." He laughs. "Yes, you could describe life this way."
So which side wins, I ask?
"Which side wins?"
He smiles at me, the crinkled eyes, the crooked teeth.
"Love wins. Love always wins."
I know I have to work a lot on this. I am not a very expressive person when it comes to showing emotions. I prefer the abstract way of expression through music, writing, and performance. I have been in a discussion with myself about how to win over this "wrestling match". How do I communicate what I feel to people who have different beliefs, values, and communication pathways?
And the answer I got is: There isn't one way of getting it right.
What we have to do is to continuously be in conversation and demonstration. Learning to understand the other person is about love. Love even when you don't know exactly what it is. Love even when things seem incomprehensible. By continuing the conversation and sticking together (from everyone involved), we can decipher the meaning of life.
In a wrestling match you always have a coach, right? Find your coaches and teachers in your life.
