Recently, I heard a speaker talking about success and failure, but particularly about failure. I was very excited about the talk and what the speaker was proposing. Failure is not really the end or anything bad in particular. Failure is a way for you to grow and try harder. I was like, "yeah, that's true". I was interested in the speaker's view, until I read about her life: the speaker had gone to Harvard, then Oxford for a masters, and the PhD at Yale. Talk about failure! :p
For the regular folks out here and there, what is failure for us? Through society's eyes we see failure as not having had good grades in school, not having graduated with an awesome and respectable degree, not having a good job, being a bad parent, not being pretty enough, etc... But to us, what is failure?
For me, failure is not having giving it my best. Failure is having giving up, literately. If I try something new and I don't get it the first time, I am fine with that. If I gave it my best, and that was the result, I am fine with that. The only thing is, I am probably going to keep trying. I am going to keep trying, until I feel proficient at the task. Until I feel that I have grown or learned something. That is my definition of success.
My goals - or better said - my ambitions are not to go to Harvard or be an engineer. And I don't feel like a failure for not having those goals. I have three goals in life: to be grateful, to be helpful, and to give it all I have. Those are my goals, and if I don't work towards them, I feel that I have failed at life. That is why I always try to improve who I am.
This leads me to my greatest quote: Step out of your comfort zone! Yes! It is in those moments of feeling uncomfortable that you realize that failure is not worth it. When you realize that all you have to do is try, and keep trying, you become fearless. Keep learning. Keep going!
Success is going from failure to failure, with no loss of enthusiasm!
I hope this was helpful in some ways. Tell me what you think! What is your definition of failure? Success? I hope you guys have a great weekend!
Be strong, be unique, and step out of your comfort zone!
